4 Maternity Fashion Trends You Should Be Rocking in 2021

The weather is warming up, and moms-to-be have turned their attention to what’s hot for the summer season. If you are also pregnant and looking for some help putting together your look for summer, here are some of the maternity fashion trends you can follow.

Florals

One of the significant trends of the season is floral prints. In keeping with all things colorful this year, floral motifs will be everywhere, offering us a return to femininity.

There are no rules with florals – from soft and girlie to bold and eye-catching, it all looks fabulous. When wearing florals, go for either a pretty dress or just one piece such as a skirt or top and keep the rest of your look understated with block matching colors and natural hued shoes and accessories.

Pastels

Summer sees a return to color, and pastels are a major trend. Your wardrobe should look like a gelato bar from light lemon to pale pink, lavender, and mint green! The key to pastels this season is color blocking with colors on the opposite side of the color wheel. If you’re not familiar with color blocking, you can try layering with whites and neutrals.

For example, mix tangerine with purple or yellow with pink and blue with citrus to make a colorful impact. Or, if you want a softer look, mix pale yellow with white or purple with cream.

The good news is it’s hard to go wrong if you keep it softly shaded.

Color Blocking

Let’s talk color blocking. Most of you would have noticed it during summer where hot pink was teamed with bright orange or green with mid navy. It looked great. It was all about matching bright, block colors with other bright, block colors that your mother probably told you never to wear at the same time.

The good news is color blocking is still big news for winter (and into spring). Because designers never let a trend slide from one season into the next without modification, color blocking is now more about using colors in the same palette.

So if you are going with neutrals, wear them together, from winter white through to latte, or multi shades of pink (pastels are coming back for summer, by the way) or a sea of greens. It looks effortlessly smart and keeps you looking effortless hip!

The main thing to keep in mind is matching cool colors with other cool colors and keeping warm colors together. When wearing cool colors, silver accessories work best, and when wearing warm colors, go for gold.

In most looks, your animal print shoes will work well for a confident, up-to-the-minute twist; otherwise, think ballet flats or boots.

Belt It Up

Pregnancy isn’t necessarily the time to give up on belts. They can give you shape when you’re feeling somewhat beach-ballish, and they can transform the look of your outfit, thus providing more than one way to wear dresses for pregnant women.

#Below the belly

This look rocks on maternity tunics and long tees. It says laid-back chic and is more about a fashion accent than changing the silhouette of your maternity wear. Casual neutrals, i.e., tan leather, are easy to wear with most ensembles, or be brave and go for a pop of color to liven up your look for summer.

#Above the belly

This works best on voluminous dresses, cardigans (think layers), and flowy maternity tops. The addition of a belt gives your maternity top or maternity dress an empire line, accentuates your curves, and is a flattering look on most women. It also can smarten up a maternity shirt which is perfect for a more polished look in office wear.
