My colleague was telling me. He was browsing the internet the other day and came across a rather interesting item. He was surprised to find a fully intact, completely original. And hardly used Ferrari-branded brake fluid system from a 1970s sports car. This particular item caught his attention. Because he is currently working on building a Ferrari replica. So needless to say he wanted to know if this might be helpful.

The answer turned out to be “yes,” but you’ll have to read more in order. For that answer to make sense. Here’s what’s going on! The item in question is the brake fluid reservoir that comes with the famous 330 P4/5 “Coda. The Coda features the Ferrari-style system. So if you’re working on a Maserati or Lamborghini project, you folks will also find this to be useful.

The brake fluid reservoir, which is basically what it sounds like. Is constructed of aluminum. It measures 6.25 inches in width x 4 inches in height x 3.75 inches in depth. The Coda replica comes with this part. But there are also other Ferrari replicas that come with this part as well. Namely the 430 Scuderia F1, the 360 GTC Berlinetta, and the 599 GTB Fiorano Convertible. This reservoir is a pretty nice example of vintage Ferrari parts. It’s in excellent condition, and it’s hardly used.

The reservoir comes with a mounting bracket. Which means that you won’t have to go out and buy one from an old car from eBay or from some other used parts joint. The mounting bracket will fit on any radiator support. That has a 14/16″ spigot connection (which is the most common size for most period race cars).

As previously mentioned, the reservoir itself is in excellent condition and hardly used. Which makes it all the more valuable. There are no bent edges, no scratches, and no corrosion whatsoever. It’s in perfect working order. This is a really nice item, and it’s one that might be difficult to find. Why Is It Hard To Find Vintage Ferrari Parts?

The car market is one of the most segmented markets in existence. In a few words, it’s tough to find quality parts for vintage Ferraris because they just aren’t made anymore.

There are many reasons why finding Ferrari parts is difficult. For one, the scarcity of these pieces keeps a lot of sellers from really working on them. And who wouldn’t want to sell a Ferrari part if it’s going to be worth millions? As a result, not only does it usually take more time and effort to find this stuff but prices can also be surprisingly high. Because few people want such an ugly car back in their garage (and that’s not necessarily the end of the world either).

What we are talking about here are the parts. That are relatively easy to find like mufflers, wires, horns, distributor caps, and other stuff like that. This is because many of these parts were mass produced (with exceptions like tires or engine parts). Which means that finding them in good condition is usually not too much of a problem. And when you find them, you usually aren’t paying much for them either. Of course, finding these parts doesn’t really have to be a problem.

As far as we know, if you’re looking for parts. That are out of production or difficult to find then you’re probably just fine. Suspension spring kits are hard to find for example. While Axles are easy to come by these days while almost everything else made. At the time is still relatively easy to get. The only real issue with finding stuff like exhaust systems for vintage Ferraris is that these are not mass produced at all.

The other issue with finding Ferrari parts unrelated to the engine compartment is the difficulty in converting them. Ferrari parts are just not the same as other vintage parts. And have a different set of specificities that need to be kept in mind. For example, you can’t convert a V6 or V8 engine to a single-carburetor setup. Without severely compromising on both power and reliability.

Also, the Italian cars were especially fuel efficient and this is why they don’t even come with fuel pumps anymore. A Ferrari without a fuel pump may seem somewhat threatening but that’s not necessarily true because a modern car would be no different if it didn’t have one. So the fact remains that almost all Italian cars from a certain era will come without a fuel pump.

Now, in terms of finding these parts, durability is an important factor. Of course, vintage Ferrari parts are just as durable as other parts but when it comes to finding them, it’s not about how much you pay for something but the condition that it’s in when you buy it.

You can spend a lot of money but if you don’t take care of your stuff, they won’t last for very long. When it comes to quality, the parts are indistinguishable. Some vintage Ferrari parts are really in good shape while others are in terrible shape. If you’re not careful when buying them it’s not uncommon for the seller to overstate what they’re selling. So take nothing for granted.

Another factor that can be a problem is pricing. Sometimes, pricing on vintage Ferrari parts can be tough because there are so many sellers out there. It’s tough to stay out of the fray when you’re looking for anything related to Italian cars because people love them and there’s no shortage of suppliers with an interesting collection of parts or even with quality stuff that may or may not have been restored correctly. As a result, it’s not uncommon to find vendors who are willing to sell you some parts for pretty much nothing.

Of course, there are also other factors that can play a role in finding vintage Ferrari parts. For example, it’s not uncommon to find really hard-to-find vintage parts on eBay but then again, the car market is all over the place there as well. It’s difficult to tell if an ad even has anything Ferrari related because sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes the sellers purposely put non-Ferrari items in their ads to make sure you’ll buy their stuff without seeing anything else first.

Other times, it’s just hard to tell. For example, you may see some ad selling a “Ferrari” part, and then something else entirely pops up in your email. One of the issues with eBay is that there are so many sellers and since Vintage cars aren’t really their thing, many of them don’t know how to describe exactly what they’re selling.

If you don’t look closely enough and you’re not paying attention (which is kind of like looking at a 100W light bulb and judging it as having one billion candelas) then it’s easy to miss some important details which could be a big problem down the line.
