5 Concepts of Christian Counseling

It is a tough choice to seek Christian counseling. It’s sometimes accompanied by a sense of reaching our limit. It’s possible that we’ve run out of ideas. “I’ve tried everything!” we could think to ourselves. Nothing seems to work!’ We’ve all been in that situation.

Making the choice to seek Christian counseling is difficult enough, but what happens next?

Starting therapy is a vulnerable and personal experience. It takes a lot of confidence to share your concerns, ideas, and frustrations, so you want to be sure you’re seeing the proper person. At times, life and relationships may be difficult to manage. There are some characteristics to look for in Christian counseling, whether you’re looking for personal development or to work on a relationship.

I presume you’re seeking Christian counseling because you desire biblical instruction and direction for your life and relationships. I’ll also presume you want to understand how to apply biblical principles to your life and relationships. Finally, if you’re looking for Christian counseling, you undoubtedly want Christ to be at the center of everything.

5 Christian Counseling Concepts

Christian counseling gives people hope in Jesus Christ.

We yearn for hope whether we’re going through tough seasons of personal development or a difficult relationship. By referring to Jesus, solid Christian counseling gives the only hope that has enduring consequences.

We are standing on the unsteady ground when we place hope in ourselves, our surroundings, or the people in our life. We are at our most vulnerable at times of struggle and suffering. When we need it the most, a Christian counselor will breathe truth and vitality into our lives.

Christian counsel solves difficult problems.

Christian meetings discuss the weight of our hearts. If difficult questions make you feel uncomfortable, you will surely grow in grace. This is the sign that you are stretching. After all, if you’re looking for a treatment, you’re hoping for a change. Right? Hope to tell the truth in a kind way.

Scriptures are often used in Christian counsel

In general, man’s view of God’s will is not clear. After all, whether we are Christians or not, we are made in His image, and His laws are sealed in our souls. Christian counsel reflects God’s undeserved kindness toward us and His purposes through the influence of the Bible. The Bible uses Christian medicine to describe aspects of the Christian life.

That’s not everything…

The scriptures are used to aid in the use of counterfeit Christian drugs. When we offend, how can we forgive? Is it possible to regain trust after betrayal? How can we trust God when things aren’t going as planned? In difficult relationships, how can we love sincerely? And, most importantly (and I’m saving the best for last), Christian Counseling will go even further into why we live the Christian life. The ‘why’ provides hope and encouragement?

Christian therapy encourages and supports us to live our mission by reminding us of Christ’s great love. We are reminded of the meaning and power of grace.

The Bible is the ultimate truth. Christian counseling is based on God’s Word, which is used to encourage people toward truth rather than away from it. This counseling should never be in conflict with God’s Word.

Christian counseling always includes prayer.

Prayer is surrender to God. He’s in the business of transforming hearts, not Christian counseling. Although the counselor may convey and teach the truth, it is the Holy Spirit who transforms people.

Homework is used in Christian counseling.

Okay, homework should be included in any treatment. That is my view, and I will explain why.

I have two reasons… Ready?

First, if everyone in the room (you and the therapist) views the one hour each week as the power hour, progress will be sluggish.

Consider the case where you wish to go into health and fitness. Is Will going to the gym for an hour a week make a substantial difference? Certainly not! To get the outcomes you want, you must be willing to change. And if you don’t make any genuine progress, you’re more inclined to quit. Right?

Second, without homework, there is a greater reliance on the counselor. That was not the intended result. Outside of the session, practice leads to reliance on God and faith in His methods. The counselor may not always be there, but God is always present.

Let’s go through everything again…

Christian therapy is a major step, and you want to be sure you’re getting good advice. There are five characteristics that are indicative of successful Christian counseling.

  • Christian therapy should instill faith in Jesus Christ.
  • Christian therapy tackles the tough issues.
  • The Bible is used in Christian counseling.
  • Every session includes prayer.
  • Homework is offered to practice applying biblical truth to life and relationships.
